Trial Islands


Trial Islands (48˚23'53" 123˚18'20" S of McNeill Bay, off SE end of Vancouver I, just SE of Victoria). According to some sources, this name originates in a trial run that naval vessels under repair at Esquimalt would take out to these islands and back when they were tested for seaworthiness. The problem with this interpretation is that the name is a very old one and long predates the appearance of repair facilities in Esquimalt Hbr.
