Thrasher Rock


Thrasher Rock (49˚09'00" 123˚39'00" Gabriola Reefs, E of Gabriola I, Gulf Is). The Thrasher, a sturdy new US ship, was wrecked on this rock in 1880 while being towed by the steamers Etta White and Beaver. It was en route from Nanaimo to San Francisco at the time, under Capt F Bosworth, with 2,300 tonnes of coal. J F Engelhart of Victoria purchased the wreck for $500 and the coal cargo for $50.
