Thorn Rock


Thorn Rock (52˚57'00" 132˚11'00" In Mitchell Inlet, Kuper Inlet, off NW side of Moresby I, QCI). This hazard, identified by Capt Augustus Kuper of HMS Thetis in 1852, is thought to be named after Charles Thorn (or Thorne), an engineer on the HBC’s small steamship, the Otter. Thorn helped bring the venerable vessel out from England in 1853 and is frequently mentioned in its logbook, often because of his drinking habits.
