Thompson Sound

Thompson Sound (50˚47'00" 126˚03'00" E side of Tribune Channel, E of Gilford I, just N of southern Knight Inlet). The origin of the name is not known, though Spanish explorer Dionisio Alcalá-Galiano called this feature the Brazo de Balda and stated in his account of his 1792 voyage that Juan Vernaci, 2nd officer of the Mexicana, had been the first European to visit it. A large logging camp was located at the head of the inlet in the 1970s, complete with a post office.
