Thieves Bay


Thieves Bay (48˚46'00" 123˚19'00" W side of N Pender I, Gulf Is). According to a reminiscence by Mary Hamilton in Gulf Islands Patchwork, the feature got its name in the 1890s when a pair of sheep thieves were spotted killing and salting down sheep at this site to sell to Fraser R fishermen. The local police constable deputized a group of farmers, and the squad rowed over to the bay and apprehended the criminals.
