The Naze


The Naze (48˚26'00" 123˚17'00" S of Cadboro Bay, N of Oak Bay, just E of Victoria). This point was named after a headland on the E coast of Essex, an important area for migrating birds. The English feature is eroding severely, threatening a historic tower built as a shipping landmark. The Naze was not officially adopted as a BC name until 1981, though it appears on T N Hibben & Co’s 1913 map of Victoria. The name derives from ness, the Old English word for a headland.
