Tenedos Bay


Tenedos Bay (50˚07'00" 124˚42'00" E side of Desolation Sd, NE end of Str of Georgia, E of Campbell R). The RN sloop Tenedos was on the Pacific Station, based at Esquimalt, 1872–76, under Capt Edward Ray (1872–74) and Capt Edwin Pollard (1874–76). The 6-gun, 1,592-tonne steam vessel, named for the historic Turkish island of Tenedos near the entrance to the Dardanelles, was launched at Devonport dockyard in 1870, converted to a corvette in 1876 and broken up in 1887.
