Telescope Passage


Telescope Passage (49˚45'00" 124˚09'00" Between Nelson I and Hardy I, just S of Jervis Inlet, SE of Powell R). Named by the hydrographic service in 1945, in association with nearby Nelson I (qv), to celebrate a famous incident at the 1801 Battle of Copenhagen. RN cdr Horatio Nelson, a vice adm at the time and second-in-command of the British forces, was attacking the Danish-Norwegian fleet when his cdr, Adm Sir Hyde Parker, who was farther offshore and unable to see the progress of the battle...
