Tatchu Point


Tatchu Point (49˚51'00" 127˚09'00" NW entrance to Esperanza Inlet, W side of Vancouver I), Tatchu Rocks (49˚53'00" 127˚11'00" NW of Tatchu Point). According to pioneer Roman Catholic missionary Augustin Brabant, this name derives from a First Nation word meaning “to chew.” The beach near Tatchu Point was a well-established fishing and feasting site for people of the Ehattesaht First Nation, who are members of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council.
