Tarte Island


Tarte Island (52˚44'00" 129˚17'00" Borrowman Bay, W side of Aristazabal I). Capt James Wright McKnight Tarte (1849–1920), a native of England, came to Esquimalt with his family in 1863 and found work on a sloop that ferried people between Victoria and Esquimalt harbours. His father, John F Tarte (1824–1905), had managed a coal mine in England and soon became involved in the PNW coal trade.
