Strawberry Island


Strawberry Island (49˚09'00" 125˚54'00" Just N of Tofino, Duffin Passage, Clayoquot Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Tofino residents used to go over to the island to pick wild strawberries, hence the name, which was submitted by hydrographer G E Richardson in 1986. An alternative local name was Leich I, a misspelled reference, apparently, to Ed Leach, a Tofino fisheries officer who was murdered in 1927.
