Strathdang Kwun


Strathdang Kwun (53˚40'00" 132˚13'00" W entrance to Yakoun Bay, SE side of Masset Inlet, Graham I, QCI). This point was named by geologist George Mercer Dawson in 1878 after Sahldungkun, the Haida First Nation village formerly located there. According to QCI historian Kathleen Dalzell, the feature may have been known by the Haida as Yah-koon, or “straight point,” and thus have been the original source of the name Yakoun, now applied to the nearby river, bay and lake.
