Sperm Bay


Sperm Bay (52˚13'00" 131˚21'00" E side of Flamingo Inlet, SW end of Moresby I, QCI). This local name, adopted by the hydrographic service in 1946, was given by whaling capts working out of nearby Rose Hbr, who brought many sperm whales to the station located there. The bay is considered a good anchorage for small boats. Sperm whales, which appear off the PNW coast in summer, especially W of the QCI, are a large, toothed species.
