Silva Bay


Silva Bay (49˚09'00" 123˚42'00" E end of Gabriola I, Gulf Is). John Silva (c 1837–1929), a native of Portugal, came to Victoria in 1854 as a seaman and jumped ship there. He ran a fruit and vegetable store in the city for a few years and married Marelee Holowaat (c 1858–1926), a young Lyackson First Nation woman from Valdes I, who was working for a Victoria family and went by the name of Louisa.
