Shah Point


Shah Point (49˚02'00" 123˚36'00" SE side of Valdes I, Gulf Is, SE of Nanaimo). HMS Shah was stationed in Esquimalt, 1876–78, under Capt Frederick Bedford, as the flagship of Rear Adm Algernon de Horsey, cdr-in-chief of the Pacific Station. It later served in S Africa during the Anglo-Zulu War. The 5,670-tonne, 26-gun steam frigate was designed by Sir Edward Reed and built at Portsmouth in 1873. It was originally to be named Blonde but was rechristened after the visit of the Shah of Persia....
