Sels Islet


Sels Islet (52˚25'00" 131˚25'00" Entrance to Skaat Hbr, W of Burnaby I, off SE side of Moresby I, QCI). Named by the hydrographic service in 1962 after a Raven crest tribe of the Kunghit Haida First Nation. The Sels were also known as the “Slave People,” after a dismissive comment made by the wife of a rival chief, but later grew powerful.
