Santa Gertrudis Cove


Santa Gertrudis Cove (49˚36'00" 126˚37'00" SE side of Nootka I, Nootka Sd, W side of Vancouver I). After the historic vessel Santa Gertrudis la Magna, built by British fur trader John Meares at Friendly Cove in 1788 as the North West America. This 40-tonne schooner was the first non-Native vessel constructed on the BC coast. After being launched in Sept, it was sailed to Hawaii by Robert Funter, 2nd mate of the Felice Adventurer under John Meares, and brought back by Funter to the BC coast...
