San Miguel Islands


San Miguel Islands (49˚35'00" 126˚37'00" E of Yuquot Point, off SE Nootka I, Nootka Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Estéban Martínez, Spanish cdr at Nootka in 1789, gave the name San Miguel to the fortifications that he immediately began to build on the islands bordering the S side of Friendly Cove.
