San Mateo Bay


San Mateo Bay (48˚56'00" 124˚59'00" At SE entrance to Alberni Inlet, Barkley Sd, W side of Vancouver I). This name was adopted from Spanish charts by Capt George Richards about 1860 but it is not known how or by whom it was originally applied. San Mateo is Matthew the Evangelist, one of the 12 apostles of Jesus and the patron saint of accountants.
