Salvesen Island


Salvesen Island (53˚36'00" 133˚00'00" Off S side of Athlow Bay, off W side of Graham I, QCI), Salvesen Point (53˚35'00" 133˚00'00" S entrance to Athlow Bay). Sigvart Salvesen (1878–1957), from Norway, worked in this region for the Canadian Fishing Co, under Capt Absalom Freeman, 1907–11. He had been a seaman from an early age and is reported to have rounded Cape Horn 13 times before arriving in Vancouver on the clipper ship Laura.
