Salter Point


Salter Point (49˚41'00" 126˚35'00" SE tip of Strange I, Nootka Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Capt John Salter, a mariner with much experience in the E Indies trade, was master of the ill-fated US vessel Boston, which was attacked and later destroyed by members of the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nation at Nootka Sd in 1803. Salter, who had insulted Maquinna, the Nuu-chah-nulth chief, was massacred with all his crew except two, John Jewitt and John Thompson, who were held captive for nearly three years...
