Salamanca Point


Salamanca Point (48˚54'00" 123˚21'00" E side of Galiano I, N of Whaler Bay, Gulf Is). Spanish naval officer Secundino Salamanca was 1st lt of the Sutil, under Dionisio Alcalá-Galiano, during the 1792 circumnavigation of Vancouver I made by that vessel, in company with the Mexicana, under Cayetano Valdés. Salamanca and his counterpart aboard the Mexicana, Juan Vernaci, also led trips in the small ships’ boats in order to examine and survey the many inlets and side channels in the region....
