Saavedra Islands

Saavedra Islands (49˚37'00" 126˚37'00" E of the S end of Nootka I, Nootka Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Spanish naval officer Ramon Antonio Saavedra y Giraldes (or Guiralda) was sent to Nootka Sd with the San Carlos in 1791. He brought news to Francisco Eliza, the Spanish cdr at Nootka, of the signing of the Nootka Sd Convention, which granted Britain free access to the PNW and restored all British property previously confiscated.
