Quarantine Cove

Quarantine Cove (48˚21'00" 123˚32'00" S end of Parry Bay, W of William Head, S end of Vancouver I). Presumably named in association with nearby William Head, which was a quarantine station, 1894–1958, where passengers on suspect deep-sea vessels were inspected for infectious diseases (usually smallpox) before arrival at Victoria and Vancouver. In 1959 the site was turned into a minimum security prison. Nearby Quarantine Lk is probably also named after the William Head facility.
