Porter Bight


Porter Bight (48˚50'00" 123˚21'30" NE side of Prevost I, E of Saltspring I, Gulf Is). Named in 2000 for Flight Lt John Edward Porter, from Victoria, who died in action over France on Aug 25, 1944, aged 22. He had completed 25 successful missions before being shot down while piloting a Lancaster heavy bomber with No 101 (RAF) Squadron. Two gunners survived the crash, but the other crew members, including Porter, are buried in the village cemetery at Boult-aux-Bois, Ardennes, Frances.
