Port Simpson


Port Simpson (54˚35'00" 130˚25'00" NW side of Tsimpsean Peninsula, N of Prince Rupert). The name refers both to a body of water and to a Tsimshian First Nation community. The marine feature was long known as McLoughlin’s Hbr, after senior HBC official John McLoughlin (see McLoughlin Bay), by whose authority the historic trading post of Ft Simpson was moved to this location in 1834.
