Piers Island


Piers Island (48˚42'00" 123˚25'00" Off NE end of Saanich Peninsula, N of Victoria). Henry Piers (1818–1901) was the surgeon aboard HMS Satellite, under Capt James Prevost, and served on the Pacific Station, 1857–60. He had earlier been in the Indian Ocean on anti-slavery patrol with HMS Cleopatra, 1844–47, and in the Arctic as surgeon on Capt Robert McClure’s HMS Investigator.
