Penrose Island


Penrose Island (51˚30'00" 127˚43'00" N entrance to Rivers Inlet, SE side of Fitz Hugh Sd). BC coastal historian Capt John Walbran mentions that this feature was named in 1865 by Lt Daniel Pender, of the hired survey vessel Beaver, “after a friend of his named Penrose who was visiting the coast at that date.” RN officer Trevenen Penrose Coode (see Coode I and Penrose Bay) was serving on the BC coast in 1865, but it is not known if he was the Penrose in question.
