Paterson Point


Paterson Point (48˚27'00" 123˚27'00" W side of Esquimalt Hbr, SE end of Vancouver I). George Yates Paterson (d 1889) served on the Pacific Station in 1843–47 as 3rd lt aboard HMS Fisgard, under Capt John Duntze. He was promoted to cdr in 1860. When Lt Cdr James Wood, of HMS Pandora, surveyed Esquimalt Hbr in 1847, he named many features after the officers of the Fisgard, which was one of the first RN vessels to anchor there.
