Openit Peninsula


Openit Peninsula (49˚22'00" 126˚16'00" SW entrance to Sydney Inlet, opposite Flores I, NW of Clayoquot Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Named for the Ahousaht First Nation reserve on the E side of the peninsula. According to BC historians Helen and Philip Akrigg, openit is a Nuu-chah-nulth word meaning “place of calm waters.”
