Noel Bay


Noel Bay (49˚03'00" 123˚36'00" E side of Valdes I, Gulf Is). James Gordon Noel (1923–85), a manager at forestry giant MacMillan Bloedel Ltd and superintendent of the Duke Point sawmill in Nanaimo for several years, had a summer home on this part of Valdes I. The name was proposed in 1985 by Dr J Crosby Johnston, who was head of Calgary General Hospital before retiring to BC, and adopted in 1986. The feature is known locally as Oyster Bay.
