Nicholls Island


Nicholls Island (50˚50'00" 126˚36'00" Off NE side of Broughton I, Penphrase Passage, just S of Kingcome Inlet). It has been suggested that this feature was named after William Nicholl, the surgeon aboard HMS Chatham, who accompanied Capt George Vancouver’s expedition to the PNW. There is no evidence of this, however, either at the time of the voyage or later, and a note at BC’s Geographical Names Office states that it is unlikely that Capt Vancouver would have named an island this small....
