Nicholas Shoal


Nicholas Shoal (53˚14'00" 130˚20'00" S of N Danger Rks, W of Banks I, Hecate Str). John Nicholas (c 1771–1805) joined HMS Chatham, the tender to Capt George Vancouver’s HMS Discovery, as a midshipman in 1791. He was promoted lt on Vancouver’s return to England and made a capt in 1801. Nicholas was cdr of HMS Eurydice in 1804 and escorted a convoy of fur-laden ships across the Atlantic from Canada that year.
