Newcomb Point


Newcomb Point (49˚38'00" 123˚41'00" S side of Salmon Inlet, E of Sechelt Inlet, NW of Vancouver). Named in 1950 after a logging family that operated in this vicinity and on the N side of the inlet in the 1930s and ’40s. The correct spelling of their surname, apparently, was Newcombe. According to Sunshine Coast historians Betty Keller and Rosella Leslie, the Newcombes ran a typical gyppo outfit that practised high-lead logging close to salt water and used wood-burning steam donkey engines....
