Newby Island


Newby Island (52˚14'00" 128˚08'00" Off SW side of Chatfield I, Seaforth Channel, just N of Bella Bella). John Newby (1849–1926), a Victoria master mariner and pilot, came to Canada from England in 1880 and was joined in 1886 by his wife, Millicent (1849–1908), and their young daughter. In the early 1880s he was capt of the barque Tiger, carrying lumber between Victoria and China.
