Myrmidon Point


Myrmidon Point (50˚04'00" 124˚48'00" NE tip of Malaspina Peninsula, NE end of Str of Georgia). The steam-powered gunboat HMS Myrmidon, built at Chatham in 1867, was posted to Esquimalt in 1873. The 795-tonne, four-gun vessel responded to the wreck of the USS Saranac (see Saranac I) on Ripple Rk and was also used for surveying. It was paid off at Hong Kong in 1889, decommissioned and sold.
