Mugford Island


Mugford Island (49˚11'30" 125˚40'40" In Tranquil Inlet, a branch of Tofino Inlet, Clayoquot Sd, W side of Vancouver I). This name was adopted in 1986 for RCNR able seaman Robert Burns Mugford, from Sooke, who died in action on Aug 17, 1941, aged 32. He was serving at the time on HMCS Allaverdy, a patrol vessel that was part of the Fishermen Reserve Service on the BC coast. He is buried in the cemetery at Knox Presbyterian Church, Sooke.
