Mud Bay


Mud Bay (49˚05'00" 122˚53'00" NE extension of Boundary Bay, SE of Vancouver). There are seven places officially called Mud Bay in BC, plus 20 or more other place names with the words “mud,” “muddy” or “mudflat” in them. This one, named for the oozing tidal flats at the mouths of the Serpentine and Nicomekl rivers, is of very early origin, as a post office called Mud Bay was proposed for the adjacent farming district in 1876 (it finally opened in 1881).
