Mount Tzouhalem


Mount Tzouhalem (48˚46'42" 123˚36'52" Just E of Duncan, SE Vancouver I). Named after one of the most feared of the Cowichan war chiefs, who led an attack on Ft Victoria in 1844. The dispute arose over the fort’s cattle, which roamed freely over First Nation territory. When Tzouhalem killed some cows, the HBC insisted that he pay for them, and when he refused, the company forbade him access to the fort and would not trade with him or his men.
