Moffatt Islands


Moffatt Islands (54˚27'00" 130˚44'00" E of the Dundas Is, NW of Prince Rupert). Hamilton Moffatt (1832–94) joined the HBC in London in 1849 and came out to Victoria as an apprentice clerk aboard the barque Cowlitz, arriving in 1850. Coastal historian John Walbran states that he was born on the Isle of Wight and educated in Ireland; his HBC service record lists his home parish as Stromness in the Orkney Is.
