Miami Islet


Miami Islet (49˚02'00" 123˚42'00" Stuart Channel, N of Thetis I, Gulf Is). The steamship Miami, 100 m in length and 2,740 tonnes, struck a submerged reef near this location and sank in Jan 1900. It was built at Sunderland, UK, in 1891 and owned by the Pacific Coast Steamship Co. The vessel, under Capt Wallace Langley, had just picked up more than 4,000 tonnes of coal in Ladysmith Hbr from the Dunsmuir collieries and was on its way to San Francisco.
