McGrath Island


McGrath Island (55˚26'00" 129˚45'00" W of Larcom I, S end of Hastings Arm, N end of Observatory Inlet, S of Stewart). Joseph McGrath was co-owner in the early 1900s of the Lucky Seven and Little Joe lead-zinc claims on Glacier Ck in the Bear R district at the N end of Portland Canal near Stewart. He also staked four claims in the Red Wing copper group in the same vicinity in 1909. There is a death record for Joseph McGrath, aged 77, at Vancouver in 1943. The name was adopted in 1970.
