Marco Island


Marco Island (52˚31'00" 131˚30'00" E entrance to Hutton Inlet, Juan Perez Sd, E side of Moresby I, QCI), Marco Rock (Just E of Marco I). James Marco (1880–1909) was superintendent of the Ikeda Bay copper mine at Ikeda Cove (qv) on SE Moresby I. He died at the minesite in 1909, apparently after breathing poisonous fumes while investigating some unexploded dynamite. The names were adopted by the hydrographic service in 1962. D
