Marchant Rock


Marchant Rock (53˚05'00" 129˚48'00" Off W side of Trutch I, S of Banks I, Hecate Str). George Marchant (c 1843–1925), from Cornwall, came to BC in 1867 and was employed as a seaman on the historic sidewheel steamer Beaver, 1867–70, while it was leased to the RN for survey work. Marchant apparently noticed this dangerous rock while the crew of the Beaver were taking a meal break in 1869, and was responsible for having it investigated and charted.
