Mandarte Island


Mandarte Island (48˚38'00" 123˚17'00" E of Sidney I and Saanich Peninsula, Gulf Is, N of Victoria). This name is a misspelling, as it honours Joseph Marie Mandart (1818–93), a Breton priest from Vannes, France, who established Our Lady of the Assumption, the first Roman Catholic church in the Saanich area, about 1869.
