Mainguy Island


Mainguy Island (48˚54'00" 123˚41'00" Mouth of the Chemainus R, SE of Chemainus, SE side of Vancouver I). Daniel Wishart Mainguy (1842–1906) was a native of Guernsey and came to Victoria, around Cape Horn, on the Strathallan in 1863. He was one of the first settlers in the Chemainus district, pre-empting several pieces of land, including this island, in the mid-1860s. Mainguy returned to Europe in 1876–78, then came back to Vancouver I and, in 1884, married Mary Elizabeth Fry (1856–1943)...
