Lulu Island


Lulu Island (49˚10'00" 123˚06'00" Mouth of the Fraser R, S of Vancouver). Several attempts have been made over the years to clarify the origin of this name. An early BC yearbook claimed that it honoured a Hawaiian or Kanaka employee of the HBC. A pioneer settler account suggested it was an adaptation of the Chinook jargon word lolo, meaning “to carry,” and referred to an early portage route.
