Lions Bay


Lions Bay (49˚27'00" 123˚14'00" E side of Howe Sd, NW of Vancouver). A cluster of summer cottages here, served by a flag stop on the PGE railway line, was named after the nearby twin peaks known as The Lions. The iconic mountains overlook downtown Vancouver and were named about 1890 by BC Supreme Court judge John Hamilton Gray for their resemblance to couchant lions. They were called Chee-Chee (“The Twins”) by the Skxwúmish (Squamish) people and have had a variety of colloquial names...
