Lambert Channel (49˚30'00" 124˚42'00" Between Denman I and Hornby I, Str of Georgia). From 1857 to 1860, Cdr Lionel Lambert (b 1836) was a young RN officer on the Pacific Station, which in those days was based at Valparaiso, Chile. Until 1858 he served aboard HMS Ganges as flag lt to Rear Adm Robert Baynes, the station’s cdr-in-chief, and had earlier held the same position with Baynes in the Baltic Sea on HMS Resolution, a paddle frigate.
