Keeweenah Bay


Keeweenah Bay (52˚06'00" 130˚57'00" E side of Kunghit I, QCI). The freighter Keeweenah, under Capt William Jenkins, foundered off the entrance to Juan de Fuca Str during the great gale of Dec 1894. The 52-m, 2,332-tonne ship was en route from Comox to San Francisco with a full load of coal at the time, accompanied by the Montserrat, another coaler, under Capt David Blackburn.
